CZ Proposes “Perfect Tokenomics”—Reiterates No Plans to Issue a Token

2025-03-03

Recently, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has been actively engaging with the crypto community—buying meme coins, trading low-cap tokens, and frequently sharing his thoughts online.

Yesterday (1st), CZ posted on X (formerly Twitter), presenting a wild idea about token issuance. He asked:

“What would happen if someone issued a token with the following tokenomics?”

CZ’s Ideal “Tokenomics”

CZ explained that at launch, 10% of the tokens would be unlocked and sold on the market. The proceeds would fund the project team’s development, marketing, salaries, etc. Future unlocks would be subject to all of the following conditions:

  1. At least 6 months must pass since the last unlock.
  2. The token’s price must have been at least 2x the last unlock price for 30 consecutive days before the next unlock.
  3. A maximum of 5% of tokens can be unlocked at a time.

For example:

  • If the Token Generation Event (TGE) happened in January at $1, the next potential unlock would be in June.
  • If the token price stays below $2, no further unlocks can happen.
  • If the token price stays above $2 from July 4 to August 3, then on August 3, 5% more tokens can be unlocked.
  • If the price on August 3 is $3, then the next potential unlock would be March 3 of the following yearbut only if the price remains above $6 for 30 consecutive days.

The project team would have the right to delay or reduce token unlocks but cannot increase the unlock amount or shorten the unlocking interval. Tokens would be locked in a smart contract controlled by a third party.

CZ believes this tokenomics model could prevent excess token supply during price downturns, incentivizing long-term development.

No Plans to Issue a Token

With CZ frequently discussing meme coins recently, the community began speculating whether he is planning to launch a token. However, CZ reaffirmed that he has no plans to issue a new token, emphasizing that this is just a conceptual discussion.

CZ: “Corrections Are Part of a Free Market”

On the recent Bitcoin crash, which saw BTC plunge to $78,258, CZ commented:

Corrections are part of a free market. If market dips cause you stress, you should probably reduce your investment size. (That is, if you view crypto as an investment.) If you get shaken out during a drop, scale down your investment to a level you can handle. Mental stability wins against all market fluctuations.

A user responded by saying they love taking risks, referencing CZ’s past story about selling his house to go all-in on Bitcoin. CZ clarified:

“I took risks within my limits. After I invested in Bitcoin, its price dropped from $600 to $200 and stayed there for about 18 months—but my lifestyle remained unchanged. I still had income.”

CZ also revealed that he sold his house for less than $1 million to enter Bitcoin.
